Choose the Sierra Records Office

Sierra County uses different offices for initial Sheriff records, contract-jail custody, and the court outcome. Contact the office that controls the stage you need.

Sierra County Sheriff's Office

100 Courthouse Square, 1st Floor
P.O. Box 66
Downieville, CA 95936

Phone: 530-289-3700
Fax: 530-289-3318
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Executive Assistant Autumn Barry is the records contact. Use the official records instructions and Request for Records form. The office advises waiting ten business days after an incident. The published report charge is $40, plus $0.25 per page after twenty pages; no separate photograph price is posted.

Wayne Brown Correctional Facility

950 Maidu Avenue
Nevada City, CA 95959

Phone: 530-265-1291
Custody operation: 24 hours a day

WBCF is the principal contract jail for Sierra County arrestees who need full booking or continued custody. Use the Nevada County custody guidance before calling.

Sierra Superior Court

100 Courthouse Square, 2nd Floor
P.O. Box 476
Downieville, CA 95936

Phone: 530-289-3698
Research hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The court supplies the filed-charge and disposition trail. Its record research page explains mailed name searches and copies.

Use these routes based on the question:

  • For a Sierra booking photograph or intake record, submit a specific written request to the Sierra County Sheriff's Office.
  • For present custody or a release alert, use Nevada County's custody source and Sierra County VINE guidance, then call WBCF if confirmation is needed.
  • For a recent booking that may include someone already released, use Nevada County's Jail Media Report rather than the current-custody list alone.
  • For an alleged charge's later result or a possible warrant, request the Sierra Superior Court record or consult counsel. Sierra County has no public warrant portal.
  • For a person serving a California state-prison sentence, use the official CDCR incarcerated-records search.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the relevant official BOP or ICE locator, which does not cover an ordinary Sierra County booking.
  • For an immediate threat or emergency, call 911. The Sheriff's published non-emergency line is 530-289-3700.
